Below is a portion of the narrative from the Biodiversity Coloring Book. Henry, the Owl, and Quincy the Hummingbird, are sharing thoughts about wildlife. Henry answers Quincy's questions, but doesn't always give him a quick and simple answer. Rather he asks Quincy to investigate, to observe, and gives him back a few questions of his own.

Quincy: Henry, You are a wise old owl. Can you tell me why there are so many kinds of plants and animals on this earth?

Henry: Well, Quincy, that's a big question that needs more than one sentence to answer. Let's think about it together as we explore.

Quincy: Look Henry! There are so many kinds of butterflies. I get so excited just watching them fly by!

Henry: But one is really a species of moth. Can you tell which one?

Quincy: Look Henry! So many kinds of sea creatures!

Henry: Some of these are fish that can breathe under water, but one is a mammal that needs air to breathe. Can you tell which one it is?

Quincy: I wonder why there are so many kinds of birds?

Henry: Perhaps nature made so many to eat up all the different kinds of insects?

Quincy: Look at all these amazing tree frogs! One has red eyes and bright green skin!

Henry: That one is from the tropical rain forest. Even though there are thousands of species of frogs, years ago there used to be more. . .
